The Class Pass is a service provided by the ASUC in which eligible students may receive a sticker on their student IDs entitling them to free access onto any AC transit bus. AC Transit is a bus system traversing Alameda Country, including municipalities such as Oakland, Fremont, San Leandro, and Berkeley, and also providing lines out of the county to areas such as San Francisco and Stanford (2). Many UC Berkeley students utilize AC transit as a means to commute to campus or to travel to area attractions like Oakland, Emeryville, and San Francisco. Class Passes are available free of charge to any student officially, "registered as a studentand enrolled in at least one course" with completely paid registration fees (2). Class Passes may be picked up at the Cal 1 Card Office adjacent to Lower Sproul Plaza during its hours of operation Monday through Friday, from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

The Class Pass program is funded via an ASUC vote authorizing the surcharge of $68 per student (2) (to incrementally increase to $86 by 2020) (1) to provide this program, at a value of $1200 (2), pending a student referendum. The referendum must be voted on every 7 years. The first vote was approved by 89% of voters in 1999 and the first renewal in 2006 was approved by 80% of students (1). In 2012, a referendum for a second renewal was supported preemptively, a year early. While this vote passed, the ASUC Judicial Council disqualified the vote on grounds of, "errors on the ballot misinforming students" (3). Thus, the subsequent year posed a do-or-die situation for renewing the Class Pass. Following the passing of the filing period for ASUC elections on March 15, 2013 without a motion to place the Class Pass on referendum, ASUC President Connor Landgraf issued an executive order to nonetheless place the question on ballot anyways(4), where it passed on April 18, 2013 (5), validating the Class Pass program through 2020.
