The UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA) is one of the largest university art museums in the United States.

History

The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive was founded in 1963 thanks to the generous paintings and monetary donations by artist and teacher Hans Hofmann. Construction of the museum began in 1967 after an architectural competition to design the building. The winners of the competition included San Francisco architect Marion Ciampi and associates Richard L. Jorasch and Ronald E. Wagner. BAM/PFA holds a large array of pieces, including 16,000 objects and 14,000 films and videos.
